Set Up Your Space!

Welcome to Yoga Therapy with OGGI BE!

You have made a choice to create time and space to build a relationship with your body and the present moment and to cultivate a practice that will serve your healing and transformation!

In order to engage with yoga therapy successfully online you will need to gather some necessary materials and create an environment in your private space that is supportive and conducive to your practice.

What you will need:

  • A device with a camera and microphone like a computer, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. Devices that shoot

in landscape with a wide angle are preferable.

  • A yoga mat! Look for one that is dense and provides sound support under joints and seat.  If you don't have a yoga mat, be sure that you are on a non-slip surface.

  • Any props that would be helpful to support you, like yoga blocks, bolsters, or straps. If you don't own

these and don’t want to purchase them, you can be creative with alternatives around your house.

  • Items that help you to feel comfortable, like pillows and blankets!

  • Water

  • A cell phone should be kept nearby in case of emergencies, but the ringer and any distracting sounds and
    lights should be turned off.

How to set up your space:

  • Pick a quiet room with few distractions where you can keep out people and pets.

  • Set up your video device so that you can clearly be seen both standing and when you are down on your

    mat.

  • Have all of the support stuff you like near your mat or where you plan to practice, so you don’t have to get up and walk around to locate what you need during the session.

Other Considerations:

  • It’s a good idea to have a journal and pen ready for after your session. Sometimes integration continues after the session is over and writing your experience and thoughts out often reveals more useful information.

  • It’s highly recommended that you do not book your yoga therapy appointment back-to-back with other

    appointments, events, or obligations.

For Participants in Group Yoga Therapy:

In addition to setting up your space and preparing in the ways listed above, you should:

  • Be sure that you are in a private space that other people will not enter during the entirety of the session to protect the confidentiality of all participants and create a safe environment where all feel comfortable to share.

  • Commit to keep your camera on for the entirety of the session to build trust and community with the other participants.  If you need a moment to yourself, you can request a private breakout space where you can have time alone, and even turn your camera off.  You should expect that the yoga therapist will check on you if you are in a private room.

  • Commit to not use the chat for one-to-one communication, and to only use the chat when and how the yoga therapist describes for a particular activity.

  • Commit to be present as much as you can when other participants are sharing, watching and listening with your whole self.

  • Have your journal and a writing utensil ready.
